HUTCHINSON : It's rare that a
Japanese rider speaks French so well ?!
Yes I speak French because I rode in
Marseille where I rode for 10 seasons with the Vélo
Club La Pomme Marseille. Today I always live in
France near Lyon because I've found a French girlfriend!
HUTCHINSON : How have you been
integrated into Team Radioshack ?
Johan Bunyel
gave me my chance with Discovery and didn't hesitate to call me when Team Radioshack was created. It's very important for me because
Japanese cyclists suffer a lack of credibility in the racing world and to fight
this, Johan had confidence in me for Radioshack.
Plus, I'd had a very good season in 2009 so I had lots of luck.
HUTCHINSON : What's your role in
the team ?
In competition, I'm integrated into the team
for the classics but I prefer the mountains (I've got some weight to loose for
that!). But also as a cycling ambassador in Japan.
There aren't many Japanese pros so it's important to educate the Japanese on
our discipline.
HUTCHINSON : Do you know Hutchinson
tires ?
Yes, certainly because I rode for the
Discovery team during the period that Hutchinson was the tire partner. I was
very happy to find Radioshack using these tires again
because I really like their products.
HUTCHINSON : What do you think of
France ?
I like living in France but the food is
really fattening compared to Japan. Also it's a little weird
! ;-)
